I’m training up for a 100k race in July, so I’ve been using some of these local 50ks as training runs – a tried and true strategy for my prior long races.
Woodside Purisima Crossover – hosted by Inside Trail Racing – is one of my favorite local courses. I ran this race in April. It features rolling hills with some climbing, mostly runnable terrain, and redwood trees everywhere. It’s also only a half an hour from my house, which is very convenient.
It was great to get to run this course with some friends. Zach ran the half (and won); Bob ran the 50k and finished well ahead of me; Stephanie – from my local run club Pacifica Runners – ran 30k (I think!). I love seeing friends on the course – signing up for races where I can run with friends continues to be an organizing principle for races I choose.
Anyway, this race was really slow for me – I finished just under 7 hours. That’s fine though – it came at the end of a heavy 3-week training block. The prior weeks were 75 miles, 65 miles, and 60 miles (including this race). Again, plan was to use this as a training run.
Here are some pictures from the race!
